Penny and I went to Archery for the last day of our introductory training with Guildford Archery Club. Today was the first introduction to competition rules and scoring.

We were scoring with Imperial measurements which means:

Gold - 9 points
Red - 7 points
Blue - 5 points
Black - 3 points
White - 1 point

Metric is 1 - 10 from outer to inner ring as each colour is divided into two rings. So you can potentially score higher with Metric compared to Imperial.

I felt I did quite well, although not quite as good as the previous week. But at the end of the session we were taken into a back room for some presentations and... I was shocked to hear.... wait for it...

I WON!
Best Male Archer Score & Best Overall Score.
Score: 206
Average of: 8.58!

It was a double whammy because Penny (my better half)

I was REALLY pleased and so was Penny. We both were proud to be referred to as "the Husband & Wife winning team". We won chocolate - bang goes the diet - but we for once felt we earned it.

I feel my technique is coming along well, but feel I have to be careful not to build on dodgy foundations. I mustn't let some bad habits creep in so I can continue to do well. My bloody left shoulder tends to creep around and get twanged by the bow string.

I will be joining the Guildford Archery Club next Sunday and doing my first shoot with other club members. I have met some great people and had some really good fun in the process.
